remove the flywheel cover. there are two bolts on the front of the starter (you may have to pull the flywheel or wiggle the bendix out of the way) then there are two bolts on the back of the starter. those are a pain. you can usually get at them by removing the airbox and carb and coming in from the top. you can only get about 1/8 of a turn each time but just bear thru it and the bolts will come out. for some reason those never make it back in when i put the starter back in. they mysteriously disappear :P
