My 700 Wouldn't start - What Happend??
Hi all,
Today while riding, after climbing a very long and steep hill, we stopped to chat. It was about 80 today and the fan had kicked on and I knew the machine was warm. We had all shut off our machines, but I turned my ignition switch back on so the fan would stay running. After our 5 minute break we took off again, but mine wouldn't start. At first it started but would barely idle, this happend a few times, then it wouldn't start at all. We hooked up a tow strap and after maybe 10 minutes it started and ran fine, just like nothing had happend. The machine is an '04 Sportsman 700 EFI. Have any of you experienced this? I'm not sure what to think other than maybe it vapor locked, any thoughts? Thanks, Jeff |

?
Could have been vapor lock. How much fuel was in the tank? Also, if it was running hot make sure the radiator is clear of mud/debris. May have a kinked/bad vent line you might want to check.

Thank you Switzomatic, the radiator does seem to be clear. Are you referring to the vent line for the fuel tank? It was almost full of fuel. I took it out again today and everything worked fine, I hope it was just the fact that I left the fan run without it running and the fan blew all the heat from the radiator to the engine and caused a vapor lock - I'm hoping that anyway!
Thanks again, Jeff |
