2000 Sportsman 500 Clutch problem
My Sportsman locked up on me. I removed the clutch cover and found a piece of flattened steel lodged between the belt and the driven clutch. The steel is 1"X7" and about 1/16th" thick. It is warped and flattened. Best I can figure is that is might be the bearing cover on the drive clutch. The clutch has just a little bit of wobble now. I took out the bolt that holds the drive clutch in but this clutch doesnt want to come off. Is there something else I need to do or is their a tool to take it off? Im working without a manual. I took the steel to the local polaris dealer (an hour away) and they didnt have a clue what it was and did not have a bearing cover to compare it too. I appreciate any help someone can give me.

This sounds like the same thing that happened to me a while back. Check out the pictures I posted on the second page and see if it looks the same. I wound up having to buy a new clutch and belt for mine.

I found both for a decent price on ebay. Less that $100 for everything.
