Default 97 Magnum Front Chain is this condition normal?

Soooooo, we got the middle chain tightened. When pushing the atv forward the front chain is about the right tension, however, when you push the atv backwards the chain slacks up a bit. When you turn the tires right the chain gets loose but the chain gets tighter when the tires are turned left. Anybody knows what his means?, not sure if the eccentric needs to be tightened or not. And if so, does it have the same punch hole method as the center eccentric, the repair manual hints towards that.

Yes, the front needs tightened, it does have the same method as the center exept there is only one bolt to loosen the essentric, it is in a hole under the front end, I believe it takes an 11/16 socket, cant remember for sure. When you tighten chains , start at the center, then do the front , then the rear, you can use a large set if channel locks on the rear but the two others are kind of a pain.

Thanks!, yea the middle one was a pain too. Time to go back out there and soak it with some PB blaster.

a brass punch works fine to get them to move. 1/4" of freeplay is recomended. don't get that back one too tight. Or the first time you have two people on you will break the chain.

I've got two of the 2001 series that are used around the farm. Be sure and check the bearings on the axle. I've had to replace the bearings in the axles a couple of times. You'll go nuts trying to keep the chains tight if the bearings are starting to go.
