transmission oil for polaris 330/325/250 trail boss/ trail blazer?
I wanted to ask if anyone out there was running anything besides the polaris AGL fluid in the transmission.
Has anyone tried anything thicker, like full synthetic mobil/rotella 10w40 oil? The reason I ask is that we took our 250s to the sand dunes (modified with HPD pipe and silencer, clutch kit), and the transmission gets really hot! Granted it is a lot of work to take my 210 lbs up and down the dunes, but this was in May (not the heat of the summer). I have taken the transmission completely apart before to reseal it, so I know what the inside is composed of...basically a silent chain and a couple of huge bearings. Does anyone see a problem with running a little thicker oil, and has anyone ever done it? Price of AGL is really not an issue. Thanks, Dillon |
I've seen posts in here where someone said they used regular motor oil. 10w30 if I remember right, but don't quote me on that.
I've always just used the AGL oil as it doesn't take that much. We've ridden in over 100º and never had a problem. But I've never had them out in any dunes, so don't know how that temp would compare. |
You have to realize these are chain cases not gear boxes.Stat with a chain case lube.I wouldnt put a motor oil in it.

Transmission Fluid
You can use AMSOIL 2000 chaincase lube. Or AGL thats the only two I would use. I use the AMSOIL 2000 chaincase lube.
