Ball joint problems in 850/550 XP's?

I've read that the ball joints may be problematic in these models. How serious a concern is this and is a recall likely? I'm still under warranty - should I get something done while under warranty?

Thanks.

Polaris will not issue a recall unless they are forced to because of possible injury. I would definately take care of this while you are under warrenty. IF you have any play in the wheels or steering, take it to your dealer and request that they replace everything...If you don't have any play, you kind of have to wait it out....

My dealer said Polaris refused to change out mine (I have the older style a-arms/ball joints) under warranty so I doubt a recall is coming any time soon. I'm watching mine closely and at the first sign of anything, it's going in to the dealer.

If you are close to the end of the warrenty, I would make certain that your ball joints "fail" and take it in for repair. I understand where the dealer is comming from, but it is not right when their is a well know defect and they play the waiting game in an effort to pass the const onto the consumer...

They covered mine 100%. Bottom ball joint and A-arm.I think the dealer is giving you a line of BS. The only thing that bothered me was it didn't look any differnt then the old one. But they replaced it.
If it happens make sure you file a complaint , I can't remember what the site was called ascp or aspc something like that. If you do a search you will find few treads about it. That way if they get enough complaints they will be forced to recall it. Just keep the speed down and an eye on it. I was lucky i didn't get hurt. Good luck

Have the changed the ball joints for the more recent production runs or do even the most recently produced units have the faulty ball joints?

Any suggestions as to how to cajole your dealer into replacing them even if you don't have a problem?

Thanks.
