Crank bearing Q's??
Hi, On my 250 trail boss do you press off the worm gear for the oil pump seperate for the bearing or both at once? Thanks

I heat the devil out of the worm gear, slip a big bearing separator behind the bearing and knock down ,moving the bearing and gear a little, then using my press to finish the job in removing gear and bearing. Then when its time for a new bearing (After crank has cooled) I lightly heat the new bearing, usually slips on,if not then have a punch handy to tap on race and seat the bearing. As far as the worm gear install ,MUST be super hot again and usually just drop on in place. Other people have different ways, but both can come off at the same time.
Propane torch really handy along with a hot plate for the worm gear(if you have it) or just heat thoroughly with torch and use gloves or pliers to pick up worm gear and drop on shaft. (shaft is tapered and worm gear just drops against bearing, when cool,CANT budge it) OPT |
