Sportsman 500 HO EFI won't start!!
I have a 2007 EFI. It just began to not start. If I give it some throttle, it will start and runs rough. After a while, I can let go of the throttle and it will idle. Once hot, it will run and idle and start. Let it cool and it won't start again unless I give it a little throttle. It has about 2200 miles. I'm thinking valve adjustment? Please, any ideas?
All the genius on this forum and no one can help me? Come on, some one must have an idea? My local repair shop won't touch it cause it's EFI, and my local dealer is happy to work on it at $90/hr until they figure it out.
Has it got some bad gas in the tank? Yah, 90 dollars an hour is bad. Maybe not much you can do yourself when it is EFI besides look over the electrical connections/harness and see if it has thrown any codes???
That's right! I can check for codes can't I? Is it in my manual how to check?
Check the slack in the throttle cable!
have you adjusted or tried to adjust idle or any other adjustements.? did you check the sensors onthe intake and air box to make there plugged in and not broke or moved? just a thought.
I think gaspumpcity is right on.....the throttle cable going out of adjustment is a characteristic of the Sportsmans.....NoJoke
Ck air cleaner, replace gas, check codes, adjust cable slack by throttle. Hmmm
First things first, take a turn or 2 on the throttle cable adjustment, that fixed my 500.

Do EFI ATVs have the little air tube that commonly get crimped or squished under the gas tank near that little foam piece?
Also, NO ATV DEALER IS WORTH $90/HOUR! That is PURE GREED! Want to see the injustice? Just ask the mechanic what he/she gets paid per hour, years of Factory (Polaris,Yami, Kawi, ect) training credentials, and call the better business bureau of and check this dealer's track record. It usually speaks volumes! LOL! Maybe the going labor rate of a Certified Factory-trained mechanic is $45-$50/hr. |
