scrambler 400 2x4, won't turn, manual pull stuck
Hello guys, I have a 1997 scrambler 400, it's been sitting for about 8 months, battery was drained, I charged it and tried to crank it, but it will only give me a click, I tried the manual pull, it seems to be stuck. can someone please guide me to get the motor unstuck.
Thank you. |
Getting it unstuck is 1 thing, why is it stuck is another.

you need to find out why as mentioned it's stuck? did water get into the engine and rust it ? maybe take the clutch cover off to see if you can turn it over w/ the clutch (front engine) by hand. i would take the spark plug out to make it turn over easier. don't turn it over w/ the key on or it might start and hurt your hand.

As Stendori stated, pull plug and see if you can pull rip cord and manually move the piston, if not, then either the piston/rings are into the cylinder wall, or you filled your crank up with either antifreeze and or Gas

Thank you guys, When I removed the clutch cover, I realized that the motor is actually turning, but it was turning about an inch every time, so I kept doing till I got a full turn, then it started turning normal, however I had a real hard time getting to start, as if I was out of fuel, finally it cranked up… but if I let go of the throttle it will die on me…. Also I noticed that when I turn it on in neutral I am unable to change gear to forward or reverse, but when I turn it off I can do that…. If I turn it on as it’s in forward I can drive it, but as soon as I put it in neutral I am unable to put it in gear again.
Any suggestion? Thank you. |
idle is too high for the gear shifting and it sounds like you either have a dirty carb or an air leak somewhere. i would start with cleaning the carb.

:iagree: if this has been setting for that lenght of time, then chances are the carb might need to be cleaned.
