Default 2001 400 Sportsman steam out of radiator cap

I have steam coming around the cap.Why would it be doing this?
Just set the valves replaced overflow hose. Now it is blowing steam.
Any ideas?

So What I think Stendori is saying is check the rad cap. I had this same thing going on with a 500 i had and I found that the cap was bad. P/U a new cap at a Napa store and try it. I think it was like $10.00. Run the unit one compleate heat cycle to remove any air and put the new cap on. IMO this will fix it

what happens if you left the rad. cap on the first notch and don't tighten it all the way(so it can't build pressure) to see if it still going to do it? does it fill up ovrflow beofre it gets up to temp?

If its not a bad cap and is still pressurising radiator its probably a bad head gasket.

Maybe a air lock and your system needs a burp. A good sign of this is the top rad hose is hot and the cap may steam but the bottom rad hose is still cold.

if it's building pressure and not over heating and psuhing steam then i agree a bad head gasket is posiable for sure. good luck and let us know.

Wink

Took it to get the system pres checked had to put on a cap neck(old one was disformed )
System held pres. but with cap off it would push fluid out the cap and into resevoir.Bob (Polaris shop owner) wants me to check water pump impeller first then go to head gasket.
It is good being friends with a shop owner
