Outlaw 525 Owners! Lets hear your 2 cents?
In a few other posts quite a few of us are seeing the end of the year deals and wanting to find a great trail sport quad. Errrbody and their brother chime in and say 400EX, Z400, Raptor 700.. but nobody with an outlaw 525 steps up and chimes in.. is this for a reason.. is the 525 too much for the trails? Can it lug low in the rpm?? Compare it to these other bikes cus everone has ridden a 400EX. Please tell me where these other bikes are better than the Outlaw. The reason for concern is 2008 outlaws are selling for 3999 out the door about an hour from my house.

I have not driven one of those. I would say that once you get into some tight stuff I end up clutching, but nothing too terrible. Also, I would say that if you have a lot of experience on a quad you will probably not have any trouble. This is my first quad after being on 4x4's for years. So I'm still learning the whole clutching thing. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have the Outlaw 500 not the 525 so I can't speak to the 525.
However, for a trial quad I love the Outlaw. I have no problem lugging down low. There is some clutching and a stall every once in a while but not a big deal.
It is not as good down low as my semi automatic 4x4 Eiger but then again, it is alot funner when the trails open up a little.
The extra ground clearance and smoother ride of the IRS really help in trail riding.
I have not owned a 400ex but sat on one and rode it a little before I bought the Outlaw. I thought the 400ex felt real small. I like the bigger feal of the Outlaw, but I am 6'1" and 210. The 400ex just felt cramped to me. But I do know they have a great reputation as a trail quad.

good posts. keep'em coming. i did find a post that that makes some of the raptor people that have never seen an outlaw 525 eat their words.
"The KTM and Polaris were happy lugging gears down low and dancing between gears wasn’t necessary. The 700R has a strong midrange as well, but lugging gears and managing power was a little more difficult in the tight stuff. The power comes on strong and hits hard, but this machine is more at home at faster speeds."
Thats from an ATV SPORT MAGAZINE shootout between the outlaw 525, ktm and raptor 700.

One thing that I was worried about when I first got it was will I have to be shifting all the time while out on the trails. Now that I have had it out, I notice that I'm normally in 3 or 4th gear depending on the trail. Even so, I rarely have to shift. The 525 motor has so much torque that I can normally leave it in one gear and not have to shift at all. Also, all reading that I have done on the Internet points this machine to be the fastest one out there...stock that is. I absolutely like it. If I could change anything, it would be getting some different color plastics. Other than that, no complaints! Also, be careful with the first 3 gears..stabbing the throttle will result in the front end coming up! She will still do it in 4th and 5th, just not as easily as the first three.
