Buying the new XP 850 Touring - Anything I should be aware of?
Hey boyz and girlz!
It's time to trade the "old" Sportsman 800 Touring for the new 850 XP Touring.
I was wondering if there was anything that I should be aware of concerning that new ATV? How is it compared to the old one?
I know it has a smaller fuel tank and the winch is mounted considerably lower then on the old one and that is perhaps not optimal for me since I use the ATV alot when I'm fishing (I'm paraplegic) and I drive into the river and fish from my bike. It must not be good for the winch to be soaked in water for an hour at a time. Should I skip putting a winch on it all together?
How is the EPS working, no news of that equipment failing or breaking down?
What about fuel consumption compaired to the older 800 model?
Lot of questions but I know I'll get good answers here on this great forum.

montana jacks makes a winch mount that is higher than the stock loaction. Not sure if they make it for this model or not though, but if they do it should keep your winch out of the water. I have a question though and please don't take the the wrong way, but being paraplegic could you winch the quad out by yourself? If you could then I would say you need a winch, but if not I would just rely on any friends that ride with you to pull you out. However, since you are getting a touring edition you may have a rider that could help with the winching. IMO if you can use it there will come a point where you will need it. Good luck and be sure to post pics of the quad when you get it!

If you could wait 6 months or more I'm fairly certain the recall issues should not occur on the newest production models. If you can't wait, be sure and get assurances and/or recalls done BEFORE you purchase one of these machines. I know also that some have had some problems with the ADC (decent control) grinding. I think Polaris has come a long way from several years ago in terms of reliability....but be a bit cautious about this newest model.....as these have only been out a year or so we are now finding some issues cropping up that may increase as time rolls on, or not.

Why wait that is what a warranty is for. I am on my 2nd XP and love it. I sold my first one for a EPS. It is not really needed but one you try one its hard not to have it. My first one gave me over 850 trouble free miles & I got all my money back when I sold it. It was one of the first production units.
