Anyone have any knowledge on this new locker that's stated on the Connections front page? Did anyone get to go to the INDY convention?

They have 2 new products coming out. The "Detroit Un-Locker" is detailed on their home page. This is bascially a 2wd conversion kit for Hondas. The second product is a front differential locker made by the company that makes Detriot Lockers for trucks. This new locker will allow easier turning while still locked. Basically it will allow one tire to spin faster than the other, but it will never allow any tire to spin slower than the engine. It will first be out for the 450, Rubicon, Rancher, and more models will follow.

So, your telling me what I may be thinking was this Detroit locker won't be like the truck version of a hydro fluid engagement and disengagement for ATV's will not be! So the Hondas and the Yamanas will still not be as true of a 4X4 as the Sportsman?

Hey Mac,
I'm not exactly sure how they work, but I believe they are mechanical. Some kind of racheting device lets the outer wheel to spin faster while cornering, acting like a differential. Under power they are completely locked. Well, I should say, the outer wheel will never rotate slower than the inside. If it is a true Detroit Locker, you will be able to here that racheting, when turning. BTW, I got your email. Brian |
Hey Dusty, Glad to hear from you and I wonder if this Detroit Locker would be a wise investment to have installed on the Kodiak. I now have to ride with 5 H.O. in Wisconsin. Plan on coming again on Memorial weekend for the Hurley ATV Rally?

dusty explained it pretty well. Basically the quad is fully locked. Not locked like a Polaris though since the Polaris only engages the front wheels at times. The fronts will always be engaged.

Mac, don't forget your dust mask. LOL The "HO Train".
