Parts cost
Does anybody know what the markup is on parts purchased from a Polaris / Yamaha / Suzi dealer? Not looking for exact markup on various parts, just a rough %. Do they get 50% on a new gas cap, or a valve cover?

Too darn much.It is totally out of hand.I had to pay over $80 for two strut seal sleeves.Glad it coming out of PayPal and not my pocket

I'm sure it depends on the part, but I would thing some parts are marked up as high as 500% or more. Take for instance a CV boot kit, they get over $40 for them and you get maybe .50 grease, 1.00 worth of clams, and a.75 piece of injection molded plastic.
I'm not sure who is getting the biggest piece of the pie, as everytime someone touches the product they get a piece of it and some things come from a long way. Just my .02 of the rant. |

What % of overall dealer profit comes from parts sales? Likely it's like drink sales to a restaurant. We paid $10 for two 10oz cokes in Boston last weekend. Laughed at the waiter when he dropped the bill. |
I went into my dealer to pick up a new thermostat for my 600 Popo just the other day, fully expecting to pay $10-$20. Wrong---$55! WTF!
I just had to laugh as I walked out the door. When I can pay $10-$20 for a thermostat for a full size truck why in the hell is an ATV thermo $55? So with that being said, is there a good on-line store to buy routine maintenance parts from? |
Many :o years ago I worked at an auto parts store. It was a small private owned one, not a large chain. The boss said whatever our cost was double it. Surprisingly, were we comptetive with the bigger chains, sometimes even cheaper. If it were a hard to find part, the price could be totally ridiculous.
I'd imagine dealers (of any vehicle) are much the same way, and charge even more for the box or plastic bag bearing their name that winds up in the trash. |
depending on the part and price but the cheaper parts are more mark up/. i would say at least 50% mark up on most parts. imo
