What's the best GPS?

I have the Lowrance H2Oc (color) with the S/D Topo card For my Area of Ontario ,Canada.........Along with the R.A.M. mount for the handlebars.
I love the larger screen than most others and the great detail on the back trails which map your route out for you..As you ride.......... Also has the 12 volt plug-in included with the unit when bought, Most ATV now have the 12 plug-in for this which is needed on the Quads as remember this with the color screen GPS's the battery life is very short when the screen is lit up all the time, When in the battery mode the screen will darken to save voltage for you when holding it in your hand with the batteries being used....... Good luck shopping, Lot to pick from, Need any more Questions just post and I will try to answer...........Caper............... |
I got a Garmin Nuvi 500. It has the ease of use of a regular touch screen car unit with topographic maps for off road. I've use it about 6 times and it has been really good. Leaves a trail where you've been, can mark waypoints, and points of interest, can get GPS coordinates, etc. I have it mounted with a RAM mount on my handlebars.

I have a Garmin Rino 520. Kinda pricy but is also a 2 way radio. I have not used it on my quad yet. Do use them on my snowmobiles and very happy with them.

MH,
You have a pic on how it is mounted in your quad? 3PA, The same and whats the stats on the radio part? Is it 5mile? And can it dial in to other hand held radio's? If I bought it, I know my cuz would just use his. Thx, R' |
R, I don't have a picture. I used an old RAM lobster mount that I just changed a bit to fit the Nuvi. The mount is a pretty basic idea that clamps to the handlebar and has two ball clamps for adjustability.

I have a lowrance Expedition C and it is good. Nice to have topo maps downloaded for hunting and then switch to Lakemaster chips for ice fishing...
|
Big600 brings up another thing I like about the Nuvi. You can get a more detailed topographic map on a chip and as he said you can get an inland waters chip for rivers and lakes. Nice for fishing. I haven't used it yet but may get the Northeast chip eventually.

I have the Garmin Oregon 300 and love it for ATVing and Geocaching both!

Yes it works with other two way radios. There are more expensive and cheaper ones. I have both. I use the 520 with color screen and my teenage son used the Rino 110 I bought used. I am planing throat mics and ear phones. |
