Yep...another small setback. My battery is fully charged but the 4x4 is still not working. The little light near the switch is not even lighting up. What could this be? Fuse? Wire? Hub?
Help...I havn't a clue. |
Xplor,
It won't be the AWD bulb. It was not a faulty or low battery. There are no fuses. It is probably not the hubs since they are seperate from each other and the chances of both going out are very small. It may what is called the shift selector switch. Although I have not heard of these going bad in about 5 years, Polaris used to have this problem and yours sounds familiar. The switch is in your shifter selector box and has a long wire harness. Before you go buy this part check the wires running down the inside of the hubstruts. Make sure they are not cut or damaged. Change the hub fluid. Were the hubs about half full like they should be. One last thing, does your AWD work in reverse (remember to hold the overide button in for it to work). If it does reply back to me and don't buy the switch. Good luck, Polzook |
Polzook, It does not work in reverse either. Shift selector switch: Is this on the right side, under the pipe, behind the crankcase? Is it a bunch of wires all together with a black plastic connection? My pipe melted this part a bit.

Zorro, If the 4x4 doesn't get fixed I will just get a Raptor or a Banshee! But then we could no longer joke each other???

I have had this same problem on my '00 SP 500 and I fixed it by removing the 2 plugs on the tranny, cleaned them using a air compressor and then packed them with electrolytic grease. Mud and water was causing this problem for mine.

I replugged my speedometer of all things yesterday...and it came back! I do not know why but the 4x4 light came back on...I will still check the other wires for dirt or other stuff.
|
The new machines will not lock into 4wd above a certain speed or RPM. It could be the control thought you were going too fast & re-plugging the speedo cured it. I wish they would keep these things as simple as possible, but that is the price of progress.

This same thing has happened to me on my Scrambler twice now no 4x4 and no indicator lights. Turned out that the connector that plugs into the tranny-transfer case under the pipe. Seems like this may be the "a bunch of wires all together with a black plastic connection" that you are talking about. The bike will not engage 4x4 without the reading from the tranny.
Hope this helps, if not ignore me :) '01 Blue Raptor '00 Trailblazer '99 Scram400 4x4 |
The 4x4 electric does run through the speedo. But i thought (only a thought) that it was '99 and above??? maybe a late '98????
Does your machine have electronic Speedo/hr. gauge? Ride'em hard Polcat. PS. My SP (99) speedo went out and I lost 4x4 too......... |
