2000 Sportsman 500 cranks, but won't start

When I try to start my Sportsman, it cranks, but won't start. It tries to turn over but backfires. Just replaced the stator and starter, spark plug and drained and replaced the fuel. Is there anything else I can do? :huh:Thanks!
