Default sportsman 500 vs. 700

I am having a debate with someone right now about whether or not my 500 efi HO really doesn't have much less power or speed then a 700. We haven't had a chance to really put them against eachother. we ride together but haven't been riding since we started the discussion. My 500 has done anything his 700 has done. My question is if anyone has ever really noticed a difference between the 2? and while were on it, is the 800 that much more powerful then the other 2?

AC Mud Pro_______49.06 hp
King 700_________48.5 hp
Polaris 800_______48.3 hp
Brute 650 I________46.3 hp
Grizzly 700________45.6 hp
Polaris 700_______44.3 hp
AC 700 H1_______41.4 hp
AC 700__________41.4 hp

9hp differance is large. That almost 30% more horse power.

It takes this $1200 stage 5 kit for the 500 to make that much power.

Well I know some will laugh me to scorn and debate me on this but my cousin's SP700 seems just as fast my SP800. I think there is alot of variables besides HP. Its how well its maintained, whats under the hood, riding style, etc. etc. -- IMO

not too mention how much weight your carring and the tires on it, air pressue, what shape the belt is in. alot of differnt causes for differnt speds. i know there is a smal differnce between the 800 and the 800 ho by like 5 hp+-. imo

My uncle had an 05 800, i had a 05 700 carb, and our friend had an older 500, i dont think it was a ho though.

the three of us lined up in the field and kicked it, the 800 was well ahead of my 700 and my 700 is well ahead of the 500.

comparing my 700 to my 800ho, yes there was a noticable difference in power. there wasnt too much of a difference between the 05 800 and my 08 800ho.

i drove the 500 around in west va once and it sucked, didnt have any power what so ever, but like i said it was an older model and it didnt say HO so that could make a difference.

what about torque? How do they match up? Does the 700 have alot over the 500?

do a search, the 700 has more torque, but the 700 isnt much quicker if you ask most people if at all. top end it is faster however. i had one when it came out and it was leaking coolant into the oil and the prairie 650 we had at the time smoked it in a drag. im partial to the fuji engines..

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Its all in the clutching. You can properly clutch a 500 to run with a 700.But you have to take all sorts of varriables into consideration.Like weight and tires. My 01 400 Sportsman that I have clutched will hang with all the 500s and still get close to 60mph.Now my 500 Scrambler will hold its own with the 700s and 800s(set up the way I have it).The 850s are another story.

It sure would ,a pre H.O500 would have a smaller carb and no high duration Cam, the first Sportsman 500 H.O came out in 2001, the Scrambler got the carb and cam uprade in 98.
