850 HO hp

My local polaris dealer just told me the 850 ho is 84 hp. Anybody else hearing this?

Every other dealer only has the 77 HP models. You have a special dealer there. Better buy one quick.

nope only 77, dealer exagerated

only thing i had heard/read prior to today. was it had 20% more bottom end power.
which i decided that meant they changed the clutch tuning. what was it supposed to have this year 70 hp?

sportszillasheex 09-14-2011 09:50 PM

it went from 71hp to 77hp

If you look at the California Air Resources Board, all ATVs sold in California must be tested to be sold there and the 2012 XP 850 is rated at 51.5KW and equals 69.034 HP. The RZR XP 900 is rated at 65.6KW and equals 87.935 HP. So it looks like the peak HP on the 2012s is the same as the 2011s

that may confirm my thoughts of polaris tuning the clutch's different and slapping an H.O. tag yet. I wonder if the 2012 parts fiche is up yet

read it was 76.3 hp over at nyroc- your dealer must have one of those secrete military made super bionic NASA designed HO 850 :)

tlc has the chart somewhere floating around the forums ;)

I finally got a chance to race against one of the Polaris Sportsman 850's at my last points dragrace a couple of weeks ago at my local 1/8th mile IHRA dragstrip that puts on an ATV Dragrace once a month.I don't know what year it was, but it looked fairly new.The plastic was shiney and it didn't seem to have a scratch on it.

The times that it was running were decent. In an 1/8th mile dragrace it runs about the same time as a Honda 400EX with a pipe. The Cam Am Outlander's are running in the 9.10 range which is about 8/10th's of a second faster than the Polaris.

Here's a timeslip from the Sportsman 850's pass.
