Default 2008, 800 Sportsman Touring Question

Ok, I am new at this and in the process of learning.

I have only found 4 grease fittings on my first used 4x4. This, as the title states is on a 2008, Sportsman 800 Touring model. These are on the upper "A" frame (bushing) joints. I believe there is one on the main drive shaft also. Haven't looked for it yet.

IS THIS ALL THERE IS? And, if this is true, any thoughts on why?

It would seem the lower bushings are just like the upper bushings except there is no way to lubricate them.

I think you can get after market universal joints that have grease fittings. It just seem like an additional expense that Polaris should have provided in the first place.

Let me know your thoughts

Not many grease fittings on the 800 or really any later model compared to the early days. The first generation of Sportsman 500s with the rear u-joint drive shafts had over 20 somethings fittings total!
The newer bushings, ball joints, etc were called "life time greased" which we just laughed at at the old shop! Just a cost cutting measure I guess? OPT

I have an 09' 800 Touring, and there aren't many grease zerks. You are right. I wish I knew what they were thinking.

they were thinking "how can we make these cheaper" and don't care they won't last as long.

Note sure about the 800's but I just greased my 08 500 Touring this morning and there are 4 zerks on the rear and 4 on the front arms. Two on each end of the swing arm. I think you need to go and look for the ones you did not find. I also have looked at the drive shaft and cannot find a zerk anywhere so the joints are on their own until they fail.

I know it's time consuming, but on the rear swing arm bushings(if your model doesn't have em) you can take the bolt out, pull the steel bushing and grease em up occasionally. I've even heard of some people drill to add zerks. OPT

There is a zerk on the rear joint of the drive shaft that goes to the front end. It's a pain in the ___ to see and put a grease gun on, but it is there. If you lay with your head under the machine and carefully roll it forward or back and watch that u-joint, you will see it. Have fun.

Well now you will have me getting dirty again by crawling around on the floor and trying to see what you are telling me. I think my floor jack under the back end and a set of jack stands will help out in performing this task without me getting run over. Thanx for the info.
