2010 sportsman 500 ho randomly dies
I have had a problem with the quad randomly quitting. There is no specific pattern to when it quits but it always starts right back up again. It never sputters or hesitates like it would be a carburetor problem (it did backfire one time) but I lose display which makes me think it may be electrical. I have tested the ETC by holding the cable and revving in neutral and it stops the engine like it should. I have also removed the pod and traced wires and vent tubes checking for kinks and shorts. Dealership can't replicate the problem of course. Any thoughts or ideas where to start checking? I do have the Clymer manual handy!

the experts will have to chime in, but i've heard that a voltage regulator can get too hot and it'd kill the engine until it cooled off. i don't know if that's possible, i'm no electrician. the last two polaris quads i had was like jumbofrank's issue, my key ring would barely tag the fuel cap and it was enough to kill it and the other one would die after running a while. when i heard that it could be the VR, i changed it out and it never had another issue. it worked for me that one time. . just check it out before you spend too much money. what worked for me may not work for you. sorry.
