Cluth Plate Engagement
Sorry if it has been posted; I cannot seem to find anything searching (I believe I found something awhile back), and quite honestly I do not know what the correct term to search for would be.
Anyhow, Trying to prepare my ATV for my g/f and want to ensure its in best operational condition for her when she finally goes with me trail riding. I have a 04 Sportsman 600 (Polaris) that it seems to jump into gear (which Ive heard is normal with Polaris'). But, it also seems like it takes a good bit of throttle to get the thing to move (i.e. I can barely push the throttle in and the engine will rev but not move). I test drove a 500 (05) and it did not seem to have this issue; if you barely push the throttle it would move. I am going to check the idle speed b/c I am having issues with the gear being hard to shift (from P,N,H,L,) while the machine is running. Could this contribute to the issue or is this just the nature of the beast? Please note; I do not believe its a carb /fuel issue; it idles fine and returns/responds to idle fine. (Maybe lose clutch belt?) |
Whens the last time you changed the belt? Mine seemed to acted like that and a belt changed fixed it up. My old belt had 2000 miles on it and still looked good.
Uses Brake cleaner to clean your clutch sheaves and the new belt should be washed in soap and water to remover the new oily film. Make sure you buy a OEM belt I tried a aftermarket Goodyear belt and it slipped hear and there. |
Belt is OEM; I Only have 1050 miles on the ATV. It's not slipping its more like if the ATV was loaded down heavy and just didnt have pull until giving it more gas (if that makes sense?)

Maybe I need to put away the sweets? lol
