Polaris 2000 quad line-up!! No more Sport!!
#11
I know many of you guys are sport rider oriented. I have a 500 HO along with my Explorer 500. And everyone would like to see even more performance from the Polaris factory. But one observation I have made since I started working part time at the Polaris dealership here locally, is we probably sell 50 'other' quads for every sport quad, (excepting the trailblazer which is priced so low, that it's hard for anyone to resist). Here in central Arkansas, the sport riding/racing element is not as big as it is in a lot of other parts of the country, and that certainly contributes to the fact that sport quads don't move off the showroom any quicker. But if this is anywhere close to the ratio nationally, it's no wonder they haven't upped the ante in this market. The engineering effort can be spent on 4X4 or utility, or whatever else the market craves for in numbers.
Please don't think I'm making excuses for Polaris. I too would like to see something better than the Scrambler 500. I really believe we WILL see some improvements in the next couple of years. It's just not like Polaris to rest on their laurels for too long.

Polaris will get 2 ATVs, swap the engines and bam, its a new ATV. I love it. All this new model gives me somthing to learn. We complain we don't get changes in the sport line up and when we get them we b*tch. Whats up with that?

David B.; I read up a bit on the new line, in particular the improved suspension (wait a minute thats ALL they changed?).
From what I have read the new rear shocks seem to be a dual rate set up, although I have'nt seen one yet. The shock mount on the swingarm was apparently moved back as well. So I dont see why a '99 could'nt be modified to get 10.5 inches, but I'm not sure it would be cost effective since you'd have to buy the shock and swimgarm.
When I bought my '99 Sport I noticed that the Scrambler (400 & 500) shocks had reservoirs, yet the Sports didn't, although the Sports seemed beefier. why was that?
Here's an idea... billet aluminum strut mounts (ya know, those ugly gray thingies)? Chromolly A-arm? Any thoughts?
