What's up with the choke cable on 99scram500
#1
I was working on my 99 scrambler 500, draining the carb and trying to figure out why the carb is stuck shut. I unscrewed the choke cable at the carb end. When I pulled it out it looked like a electrical male plug and it seemed to work like a plunger to activate the choke in the carb. So does the carb have some kind of electric choke? How do I test the choke switch to see if it is making good contact inside the carb? I have never taken the choke cable out of the carb so bare with me. Are all other carbs the same way? Instead of taking it to the shop, I would like to fix it myself any help would be great.
Thanks,

Is it a detailed service manual on the Scrambler 500 or just a basic maintance guide? The dealer said he's never been into one so he couldn't help me. Has anybody on this site worked on this kind of carb problem with the stuck choke? Cable seems to move correctly, choke inside of carb slides up easy but the choke cable won't move the choke in the carb. Any ideas??

I worked alittle more on my carb last night then I put it back together and presto it was running. I took it for a short ride to test it out and found only one thing wrong. I can be riding real good and then all of a sudden it starts to bog down. I can play with the throttle and choke at the same time and it will spring back to life with no bogging. What is deal?? Any ideas??
Thanks,
Steve

Hey Steve,
I didn't realize this was you. Hope you, Wendy & the 500 are all doing fine. A bit of advise, STAY OUT OF THE WATER!!! What did you do to cause you to have to drain the carb? I want to hear this one! Its about time for you to come down to my house & ride. Email me sometime. catch you later.

I went to my local dealer to buy the Clymer manual for my '99 Sport, because the factory service manual that comes with the Polaris ATV's isn't worht the paper its printed on!
Cylmer is like 3 years behind in their manuals. The Parts MGR. suggested I buy the factory service manual (the one they use in the shop) for $60. Its a huge 3-ring binder with over 1000 pages in it.
I opted not to get it because of all the mods I've made to my ATV only half of it would be of use to me, but you might want to check into it.
