Default how to? on 2stroke: bottom end compression test and/or crank seal replacement

I've done some preliminary searching and so far haven't hit any good threads. Looking for 'how to' type threads on:

- Testing compression of 'bottom end' of motor

and

- description of how (and how hard) to replace crank seals

I'm guessing there are good threads already out there, so please post a link if you have one. thanks!

You have to have some sort of low pressure gauge and adapters along with expansion plugs. Granted most people don't have this set like we had at the shop, but there are other ways to "rigg" something like this up. 2 Stroke Leak Down Tester | Motion Pro
The video is a a good way to check gaskets, seals, etc for any leaks.

that was a great video, thanks for posting link.

Do you have any links or info on how difficult a crank seal job is? I haven't done my test yet, but see 'bad crank seals' posted so often that I'm curious to learn more about what the repairs entail.

The main one on the 2 strokes that has problems is the seal behind the front drive clutch.BUT both seals really need to be replaced if you're going to do this. Just involves popping the clutch off,the seal pulls out with a cheap seal puller, just seat the new one in.On the other one the flywheel and stator plate have to be removed to get to the seal.

Thanks.

I don't know yet if/when I'll need to do this, but went ahead and bought one of these today. Figured for $13 it will be nice to have ready when needed:
