Default Polaris Trailboss 250es Crank Seals

Ordered a new crank seal set online (winderosa 822140) for my 1987 trailboss 250es but one is completely rubber and the other has a metal backing. The two seals I removed both had the metal backing. Which side get the rubber only and what side gets the metal backed seal? Also why the difference from the original two metal backed seals?

Both seals had metal backings on the early engines, but years ago both oem seals were changed to solid rubber. The metal backed seal that still comes with some aftermarket kits goes to the stator side of the crank case.

I actually ordered 2 sets of seals should I open both sets and just use the two all rubber ones. If the rubber type seals better or something I don't mind using two sets. Not sure if both sided are same size

On the aftermarket kits I'd still use the metal backed seal that came with the kit for the stator side because there may be a slight amount of difference on them, can't say for certain on this aftermarket set.No sense in wasting a second set of seals. Especially since this 27 year old machine still had the original metal ones.To be honest with you, seals changed several times on part numbers over the years, but I just kept in stock a bunch of OEM 3082162 updated seals that fit a bunch of different machines.
