New tires/which ones for my riding
 

I've got a 2000 Polaris 500, model A00CH. The tires that came with it are Sedona AT 25x11-10. Below that it says 275/68-10. Also says Mud Rebels. My riding is in N. California in the mountains with sometimes steep terrain. The ones on it aren't holding me well coming down hills, though the back tires are fairly worn. So...I'm looking for the best set of tires to replace the old ones. What would you guys recommend?

I have GBC Dirt Devil's on my front and Carlisle AT489's on back, very good trail tires and priced good. I'm not really a mudder but they do clean out quick after you've run through some.

Depending on the terrain a person rides in will ultimately be the biggest factor on the tire you choose. Big lug mud tires look great on an ATV and if much of the terrain you encounter is soft loamy mud, or swamps etc for example obviously a mud tire is a good choice, but if your riding more rocky, or sandy terrain a mud tire would be less effective. On these types of terrain the more surface contact , And don't forget the all important radial tires which are gaining popularity. Radials tend to squish and flex more on and around terrains create more contact area improving grip. Not to mention the ride and response is far better in my opinion. It all boils down to where you ride.

I wouldn't be riding in sandy/muddy areas, mostly just dirt to rocky areas. Good tip on the radials. I'll include that in my buy. The Carlisle's look like something that would work for me. Many thanks guys!!!

I can't remember the name of the tire that looks like a Terracross but I've heard good things about them. Maybe it will come to me later. Tires - Terracross

Just curious. If I was to buy radials for the back, will that have a negative effect by leaving the front's with bias? I know cars have an issue with that. The fronts still have lots of riding left on them and I would like to use them up.

I finally figured out what the other tire I was thinking about is. It's the Maxxis Bighorn. The Teracross doesn't really look like it did remind me of it. There were a couple of other tires that looked very similar to Bighorns. ATV Utility | Maxxis USA
