2007 Sportsman 500 EFI Fuel Pump "Replacement Pump"
Has anyone replaced the electric fuel pump in a EFI 500 with the Carter P72118. I found a old thread that the fella replaced the pump on his 2006 700 with the Carter but there was no mention of whether it would work in the 500. Called around and the local parts house has the P72118 in stock.
O'Reilly Auto Parts carries a pump part # E16205 that will work but needs some modification. Anyone have any info on either?
Thanks in advance for your help.... Jim

Here's the best repair thread I've found.
"For those of you who have a Polaris Sportsman 500-800 EFI ATV, here is the fuel pump fix.
First, tell the dealer to pound sand when they try to sell you a $900 tank assembly to replace just a pump.
The OEM pump appears to be an Airtex E8198 with a FS111 fuel strainer
O'Reillys sells a Import Direct E16205 pump with strainer. Cost about $86.00.
You'll need a couple inches of 5/16" fuel line and 2-4 clamps. (4 if you replace all the line in the tank) and 3 zip ties.
The pump is almost an exact replacement. It's about an inch shorter than the OEM. Being so, I neede to extend the Black (negative) pump wire inside the tank. I secured it with a single zip tie. The pump is secured by the OEM to the pickup assembly with 2 zip ties, so that where the other two go.
All told, job took about 3 hours or so not rushing a bit and cleaning the fuel tank. Side note:
If your machine seems to lack power or stalls when hot, Your pump is going. Also, the OEM screen is dissolving in many machines and the debris is jamming the pumps up. This is what happened to mine."
Plus you can find pumps on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-Sportsman-05-08-ATV-EFI-Fuel-Pump-500-700-800-Free-Strainer-Filter-/251072985719?rmvSB=true Some even cheaper than this on the pump and filter.http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...+pump&_sacat=0
