2006 Sportsman 90 questions

Hello,

I recently picked up a used 2006 Sportsman 90 for my kids to ride. I do not know any history on the ATV. The guys I bought it from said it had been sitting for a while. It starts up quickly and easily with the kick starter. Idles great and runs well up to half throttle. Over half throttle it bogs down and will die. I first thought is was related to the the electronic speed control, so I removed the jumper and it did the same thing. Kids have been riding it for a few days and all was good until yesterday. While in neurtral it started revving very high and then starting acting like it was running out of gas. I checked the gas and it still had plenty. It would start back up and idle ok but would no longer run very well. Needed to feather the throttle and ran poorly.

After doing some searching I am guessing I need to clean the carb????? Does this sound like a carb issue or could I have bigger problems.

My other question is about the oil injection. Is there a way to tell if the oil injection is actually working? When I first bought it home it smoke a little. After the kids rode it for a while I stopped noticing smoke.

THANKS for any and all comments,
David

Clean the carb, possible the needle and seat may be sticking leaning fuel in the bowl or the main jet may be partially stopped up. If it runs wild it's usually because of a lean condition. Either carb, fuel related and crank seals if leaking can do the same thing.Just eliminate the carb and any fuel supply problem first and go from there.
