Polaris MRZR Lands Big Time Defense Contract

Sure we civilian-types have to be content with the machine-gun-less RZR, we have to admit that the Military RZR (MRZR) is pretty darn bad-ass. Of course the government did shell out a cool $83-million for these things:

pretty cool, but won't have much luck stopping an IED!

At least put some doors on it, no side protection at all.

I read that Polaris has developed a diesel version of their military RZR. This old post talks to the gas version.

I applaud Polaris for expanding their product line. Doing government contracting is laborious and tedious work, but sometimes pays off. You can bet the selling price of the military RZR will be very high. I hope it serves its mission successfully. Gee, I wonder what the mission is? What will this RZR do that a humvee won't do?

I figured a few of you may be interested. I figured most of you consider this old news and wonder if I live in an abandoned Colorado mine.

The original MRZR weighs about 1/3 of a HUMVEE but the diesel version is heavier. The MRZR should be able to go a few places the HUMVEE won't because of the weight and less weight makes them easier to transport. Plus a HUMVEE costs about the same as 6 MRZRs so more people can ride instead of marching.

I see the original post here was from 2015. I wonder how those 2 year old RZR's are holding up.

Would be nice to have a little feedback from those that ordered them, those that service them, and those that actually drive them.

This could be another phenomenal waste of taxpayer's money.

Seems like a 4 door ranger would have been a better platform. Ability to haul 6 instead of 4 and more cargo carrying capacity.

I agree. And have the floor extra thick steel and add solid side panels to protect against running over a landmine and providing some side protection in an ambush.

There's no basic protection on that RZR. I would never ride around in that in combat or time of war.

If they added thick steel armor to it then it would barely be able to move. It would be so slow that they may as well not have the vehicle at all. I would love to ride in one of those instead of walking everywhere in time of war. If you want to be in a vehicle with thick armor you should be in a tank, which some people call death traps because of what anti-tank missiles can do to them. There isn't any vehicle that can't be blown up but there are some that are quick and nimble enough that they may not get hit.

83 million bucks. I'd like to know how many are involved as to cost per unit.
