Ground wire question
#11
Is the black wire from ignition switch to 4wd-lock switch the hot for switch. Ive got 6 wires coming out of 4wd switch, 2br/w, one goes to hubs & is jumped from one to other[gnd] other goes to 2way plug & into black square box, a black going to ignition switch, two gray to hubs and a brown going to multiple ground on top of round black plastic [thing]. Does the bike have to be running for power to switch or will key on do it.

Black from the ignition switch is for the kill circuit.. I think it's best you have a manual with the schematic wiring diagram so you can make sense of whatever someone has done to this wiring.http://visit.tradebit.com/visit.php/...75/264163430/9

This will save you some frustration and money. Here's a free wiring schematic on your 99 500. Section 11.11. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...baELwl-rdFlXfQ

OOps, I have a scrambler not a sportsman, so sorry, when I looked at the wiring diagram it hit me. I Feel like an idiot. The awd switch has a black n brown for ETC switch??, also 1 brn/white to hubs, 1 brn/w to reverse speed limiter, both grays to hubs, and gry,/w to gry/w splice then splits ,one to override in left switch, one to gear indicator switch. if grays are power to hubs then one of the wires coming in to the switch would have to feed in power for hubs right.

Just look at the schematic. You can see the switch (/) for the awd. Gray/white powers up the gray hub wire.Plus you can do away with the over ride button if you wish. Her's how some have done it..
"Pre 2003 and almost all models that do NOT have the combined override/Speedo function button.
Trace wires from the override button (gray/white & gray/orange) Cut the gray/orange and tape up both ends. Cut the gray/white and tape up the end which goes to the override button. Connect the other end of the gray/white to the red/white (ignition supplied 12v) "

IT WORKS!!, although all the time, I'll have to check out the switch when I get a chance. I got this a few years ago to ride with the grandkids and we had some fun. But the oldest is driving and the other is in sports big time so we didn't ride much this year. I figured if I could get the 4wd working I could plow my driveway with it and get some use out of it. Thank you very much.
