exhaust wrap

thinking about taking my exhaust shield off my scrambler and wrapping the whole pipe...

has anyone done this? how did it look? ive read by wrapping it keeps the heat in(obviously) and helps the exhaust exit faster and can a little bit more performance, is this true?

I've heard pros and cons on this. Some say it traps moisture, but I guess it just depends on what kind of wrap.

There are 2 main types of exhaust wrap, fiberglass and pumice. The fiberglass is soaked in water before application, the pumice is not soaked (the fiberglass is also itchy).

I wrapped my entire exhaust/muffler with the fiberglass type wrap. I did this mainly to reduce sound as mine is not a performance model. I then wrapped the exhaust wrap with rubber/silicone fusion tape that was supposed to be good to 500° F. The fusion tape melted off of the exhaust part of the assembly, the wrap has stayed on fine.

The wrap drys out quickly when it does get wet. I did paint the exhaust with heat paint before wrapping. I haven't seen any signs of rusting yet, but it may be too soon to tell.

It did substantially quieten the previous tinny sounding exhaust noise, which was my goal. I can't really say about the performance aspect. I did leave my shielding on, even with the wrap the exhaust heat is very apparent.
