Painting or wrapping exhaust
Had to have my pipe welded where it goes from double to a single pipe on my 06 800. Now that it's off I'm wondering if painting it with a high temp paint or wrapping it with the black pipe wrap, or possibly even both would help. Hoping to reduce the heat from under my leg since I ride in shorts mostly. I hate wearing pants, and the heat had ruined 2 sets of waders.
Thanks, always appreciate the input. |
Wrapping should help. Could also try making a heat shield.

I've heard that if you're in water alot and it appears you do some muddin, that the wrap holds moisture from being wet all the time and in time rots the exhaust..If you have the whole exhaust off maybe consider having it ceramic coated like Jet Hot to keep the heat down. Not cheap but my buddy had it done years ago on his and was pretty impressed...

I wrapped mine but I wouldn't have if was doing much in mud/water. The wrap did the most for sound damping. I guess it may have reduced the heat some, but to me it still gets very hot. If you could figure out a heat shield that may work best.

If the exhaust on the 800s are glowing red, they can be reflashed to try to help this. We had to do this on quite a few 800s that were running too lean and people would complain about the heat or get their legs burnt.

If you're getting DEI exhaust paint I'd wrap it after too. If you go with a ceramic coating you won't need the wrap, but could always do a section where your leg is.
I'm painting mine at home and wrapping it with the lava wrap. Done it before on car headers, worked like a charm. |
mud with it go swimming with a wrap lol..with the temps youre trying to subdue, the wrap and anything on the exhaust will be dry in minutes id bet
