What ever wire color is shown for reverse on your model then. If it shows white, then white it is,but on most models still have a purple wire for reverse.Strange...

This is the only thing I can find on the newer style.

Reverse mod- pull the headlight pod off and disconnect the two harnesses going to it. On the big harness locate the gray/orange wire and use a splice connector with another 8" piece of wire and have a female spade end connected to it. Now do the same with the brown(ground) wire coming off the lighter/accessory plug. Hook the two female spades to a toggle switch that you can mount on the pod and you are done. You will have to turn the switch to the "off" position to use the yellow override button to scroll through the different modes or if a young or inexperienced rider is on it for safety.

There is no separate reverse wire.. Its just GEAR SIGNAL The ohm resistance determines the displayed digit.

Sounds ok to me to use a toggle to by pass the over ride if it's ok with you.. Plus easy to disconnect and revert back to stock if you ever sell it.

I like the simplicity of the relay and such, but I would have to run a wire from the gear switch at the trans (or somewhere before the resistor module) to get the signal. I don't mind the toggle.. I'm the only one that drives it anyway.

Glad it was an easy fix.

I have a 2005 Sportsman 500 HO. If I do the switch and leave it on all the time, is it going to hurt anything? I hardly ever use it as Mode to cycle through the options in the speedo. So I wanted to check and make sure if I do this switch bypass, that leaving it on all the time isn’t going to hurt anything.

It won't damage the ATV electronics, but as you realize already, the mode function will not work with the switch on and the important Polaris safety feature is bypassed.. Pressing the yellow override button simply grounds a pull up resistor in the ECM connected between +12vdc and one of the ECM ports. When not grounded, the ECM port sees 12VDC. When the override button is pushed the pull up resistor is grounded on the side it's connected to the ECM port, so now the ECM ports see ground or 0vdc. Software in the ECM looks at the voltage to make a decision on what function to enable.. The pull up resistor limits the current flow to less than 2mA, so no harm to the electronics.
