Default Metal shaving on magnetic oil plug

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and I have a polaris sportsman xp 1000 and I was changing the transmission fluid and on the magnetic drain plug there was a 1" long half moon shaped super slim piece of metal on the plug and don't have any idea what it is and should I be alarmed? It's only got 12 hrs on it and runs great

Metal shavings would be normal, a half moon solid piece of metal then no that's not normal.. Could be a part of a circlip or some other part in the gear case. With 12 hrs on the machine,I'd at least show this to the dealer so they have some sort of record on this.Whether it does any good or not depends on the dealer, what might happen to the machine later on,etc.

Yea I was thinking it wasn't normal and I sent them a pic and email today with no response so I guess I'll have to call them

I agree with OPT. Definitely want to get it documented with the dealer.

Casting pieces wouldn't be metallic... I've found extra bolts, nuts, etc in crates that were dropped while going down the assembly line, but these weren't anything to worry about. Could have been something accidentally dropped into the case during gear assembly and hopefully worked its way to the drain plug.Possibly any other piece of it can find its way there too. Keep us updated when you do the next oil change. Main thing the dealer knows about it...

Yeah...ok...cases are aluminum and are non-ferrous (not magnetic)...I agree there could be some shavings, but they should be very, very small...good news is that you have a magnetic pick-up and it's doing it's job

Yea they will tell ya anything and I have broke it in like the manual says so if it breaks it's on the manufacturer so I'm just gonna ride it till it breaks or I change the fluid and see the same again
