Default What's wrong with this picture

So two weeks ago I was out for a ride..

Let my nephew take the 500 for a burn and comes walking. Back says it just died

NO SPARK

so after checking the wires I discovered the pulse coil is nfg,

AB bolt had come loose and come around and taken out the pulse coil..

So replaces that turn key fires idles like shSpam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word dies... hmm try again same thing..

Well after a few more attempts it just cranks and occasionally backfires.. plugs wet

We'll today I go to check my gapping and such good string spark double checked the timing and discovered this..

No Mater what I do nothing lines up

Cylinder is TDC cam is on point but the "T" is like 70 degrees out

Pretty sure I stuck a 3/8 extension down the pug hole to feel for movement as for the keyway I'm. Not sure. I'll check after work tomorrow

Have you removed the flywheel nut to see if the key has broken? Look at these pics from a member with the flywheel off and timing the cam up with the plated links. The flywheel key slot should be at 12 o'clock position.https://atvconnection.com/forums/pol...ml#post3305250

Not sure how I missed it but it looks as though the fly wheel key is indeed broken... when you say 12 portion do you mean. To the bike or twelve to the top of the cylinder

Pic for fun

Definitely sheared and out of time. Hopefully the tapered shaft is ok. Any good hardware store should have this 5mm woodruff key.
