Guess you mean the Sportsman 400. If it looses power under a load I'd check for belt slippage, glazed or stretched belt.Plus I'd blow out accumulated belt dust in an open area. 2008 400 had the Fuji engine and the Hawkeye clutch system.

thanks for your response, i was hoping you would chime in. I rechecked my machine and it's a 2006 450, not an 08, me bad. i checked my owners manual and it doesn't show and ecm. i did read some other posts and seems there is a similar issue that has to do with a exhaust lobe on the cam, could this issue come and go cause this doesn't happen all the time, only once in awhile

If you have the 2006 model 450 it has the old reliable non ebs clutch system. I'd still check the belt first for excess slack and glazing. Manual calls for a straight edge across the two clutches and pull down on the upper part of the belt. If it has more than an 1.5" slack from the belt to the straight edge, this could be the problem. Another is the the ecm which all 4 models of the 450 do show to have.Item#10.Polaris ATV Parts 2006 A06MH46AA SPORTSMAN 450 ELECTRICAL-TAILLIGHT Diagram The Black Chinese ecm should have been replaced in the recall.http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2008/...o-Fire-Hazard/ If it hasn't call a dealer for a free replacement. If you have the updated silver ecm and it proves to be faulty, then it's out of your pocket on the next one. I've had plenty of these fail also. #2203348.
Plus no exhaust lobe problems on these later models that I'm aware of,just the earlier ones.
