Default Connected Battery Cables Backwords- 2001 Magnum 330:-(

On, not an idiot just wasn't fully paying attention and I connected the battery terminals backwards on my 2001 Magnum 330. Quad started up fine but fan Turned on Immediately, then started to see smoke from the font end. Turned off, reconnected battery. Everything works but I don't think the cooling fan is kicking on. When I open the front panel there are some burnt wires going to the solenoid next to the ECM box? I'm afraid I burnt something and eventually this things going to overheat.. Help?

2001 is a 325.. See what voltage you show at the battery while at an idle or a little above then kill it. If it's just showing battery voltage(12 volts or so) probably the regulator is fried as it's one of the first things that fail if the battery is hooked up backwards. You also have a thermistor module that controls the fan operation and a a reverse limiter module. On the reverse limiter module you can pull the black wire to defeat it as you don't need it. Look at the parts break down to help you identify any module that's burnt. Polaris ATV Parts 2001 A01CD32AA MAGNUM 325 4X4 ELECTRICAL-TAILLIGHT Diagram

Yes the 2004 Magnum has an ecm module not a regulator/rectifier. If you're having fan problems, more than likely it's fried as it controls fan operation among several other functions. You can jump the fan motor with 12 volts to make sure the fan motor itself is ok.Plus check that the battery is charging around 14 volts or so at or above an idle. This part of the ecm could be affected also and warrant replacement even if everything else seems to work ok. Ecm controls too many functions.

Oh man, pulled apart front end and there's a fried wire from a black cyliod just above the ECM module. I cased it and it goes into the engine case by the pull start with about 5 other wires. the one is completely fried. would this be the wiring harness from the CDI? and if so what do i need to do to fix this mess

Rather than trying to type all the stator resistance specs and tests, get this cheap 5 buck manual.Covers the stator, coil, some ecm tests,etc.2004 Polaris Magnum 330 Service Manual PDF Download The stator pick up coil itself has a white and white/red wire, but sounds like your problem is in the main stator area. Hooking the battery up backwards may have fried both the ecm and stator. The tests will show you for sure.

no need to check the stator , one of the wires was so fried it broke in pieces. so i'll have to order a new stator, still doesn't rule out the ECM I guess..
