06 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O low in power??
Okay, so no change in heat/cold where I am.. I checked sparked plugs for correct gap and that they were clean just to do basic checkup. A few days after. I start it up runs fine for 10 mins, after that, it has a massive decrease in power and has a clicking sound on the right side of the motor. Any ideas?? It continues to do this and I feel like it’s timing but not to excited to pull it all apart to check.

Manual has several test/checks on the ignition system and cam timing. Really easy to check cam timing along with checking valve clearance. That may be the problem if the valves clearances are too tight to begin with. Pull the spark plug, valve cover and also the small cam sprocket cover on the right side of the engine.Rotate the engine over slowly with the recoil starter, watch the intake rocker arms go down and start to come back up.At tdc the sprocket alignment pin should be straight up.The tdc mark on the flywheel should align with the pointer in the recoil cover. Then you can make sure the cam chain feels tight along with checking valve clearance. .006 clearance on intake and exhaust valve rocker arms.May be other problems than this but the manual can help with trouble shooting and checks whether mechanical or electrical. Plus this model had the recall on the original ecm module. It can cause all sorts of problem in itself. If it still has a black Chinese ecm, still a lot of atvs floating around that have,it still can replaced free of charge.https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2008/po...to-fire-hazard. Even the silver color replacement US made ecms can cause problems also, but go through the electrical and mechanical tests first.https://www.ebay.com/p/Polaris-Sure-...348/1111855485 The manual can really help check things out by eliminating one area at a time.2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 Service Manual PDF Download Didn't happen often but the slotted nut behind the stator plate that secures the lower crank sprocket could back off(even with its reverse threads) and grind up against the stator plate. If this goes on for awhile there's a chance that the sprocket key could break. The manual shows this area also.
