I'd still check battery connections and also the solenoid connections.You can jump the solenoid posts to see if the starter works with the key off just to see if the starter works. You should have power to the small solenoid trigger wire when you try to crank it. If you don't you could have a short in the ignition switch or wiring. IF you have voltage to the small solenoid trigger wire then the solenoid may be faulty. Usually you can at least hear a solenoid click if power is going to it whether it works or not.
