I did change the oil and filter. I am now running Amsoil 20w50 Synthetic in it. The book calls for 2W50 but I am not sure where you would find that. The oil was pretty bad. It needs front wheel bearings and shafts as well. It will be my new money pit. I would like to drain the rear transmission too as it is probably the original fluid. I like to take care of my stuff as best possible. The speedometer doesn't work either. There is a lot to get fixed, but it's a better quad than my 00 I think. The starter doesn't always catch so that is on the list. Like I said, a lot to work on. |
Is that a misprint,20w50? That's a little too thick. 0w40,5w40,5w50,etc is better suited and year round viscosities in most cases. 2w50 didn't last too long before Polaris went to 5w50.Stupid thing on their part and many dealers and customers complained..

I used 20w50 since it was summer. I can change it out if it's too thick.
|
It is too thick....You need a thinner first number so you can get oil quick to the top end..
|
Okay, thanks. I will change it out. What would you order? Amsoil must be ordered in that viscosity.

Amsoil 0w40(if they have it) or 5w40. Hotter climates in the southern states you can go 10w50 as Polaris calls for that in "extreme conditions" OR as many have switched over to Rotella T6. A very good synthetic and cheaper than most. If in doubt, read up on it..

Any full synthetic of the right weight or close to it will work.

I picked up a box of Amsoil 0W40. Its already changed. I am a Amsoil fan and have been for 15 years.
