overcharge at idle

Default overcharge at idle

sportsman overcharges one time then dosent charge enough the next time could this be stator problem

Could be the stator or the regulator. What year and model.. Makes a difference.

I have replaced the regulator twice on it

You can do a general stator test on the yellow wires leading to the regulator. Should be some small resistance between each wire with no yellow shorting to ground.If any yellow shorts,replace the stator. You can also do an ac test if the resistance test passes. Set the meter on ac volts and crank the engine up. Between each stator leg,Red meter lead on yellow 1 black lead to yellow 2 and yellow 3. Should show between 30-45 ac volts above 2000 rpm. If it shows less or nothing. Replace the stator

it shows 45-47 ac but yellows show short to ground,does this make sense

Weird,but after two regulators I think that's what you're down to. Some stators on ebay or amazon are as cheap as the regulator,but may be 50/50 on them as far as reliability goes. Oem,Ricks or Ricky Stators would be more reliable,but more bucks.
