2006 Predator 50CC
 

Hello,
I am trying to take a carb off a 2006 2 stroke predator, but there is one cable (or hose) that runs from the carb and into the engine. There is no obvious way to remove it, does anyone know what it is or how to disconnect it.

Just remove the two screws holding the top cap of the carb and pull the whole slide assembly up. Same for the manual choke bracket,held on by two screws.Then pull the choke assembly up. Easier if you have the choke engaged(spring collapsed) when you remove it. Plus less chance you have of the plunger disconnecting from the cable and spring that way. There is also an oil line leading from the carb to the oil pump. Usually there is a small sleeve you have to pull back to allow the hose to pull off easily.Item #10 on the second brake down list.

Thanks, I was able to get it off and cleaned up. The carb didn't look to dirty overall, nothing noticeably blocked or seized.

I did have a question about the oil line, where it connects to the carb it didn't appear to be clear, is there a valve in there? Should i work to make sure air flows thru there easily?

Just so you know the reason I took it apart was the bike would start and idle, but would bog down after driving for about 30 sec so, i initially thought the bowl wasn't filling up.

Make sure the tank vent is open not kinked.Open the drain screw on the carb bowl and see if fuel constantly flows out.If it does that eliminates the fuel valve and float needle in the carb.The injector line won't be clear to the carb.If the oil pump is working ok(usually no problems on them) the line will have a little oil residue when you remove it from the carb.If the tank vent is open,you're getting fuel to the carb plus you've made sure the jets are clean and it still dies,the problem could be loss of spark or a compression problem. Compression from the manual is 115 psi minimum.

I put the carb back on, new plug, and replaced a fuel line, it started up and ran but again as I gave it gas it bogged out. The gas tank vent is clear, I ran it with the cover off just to be sure. When it bogged down I checked to see if there was gas in the bowl and there was, but by the time i checked (30 sec) i am wondering if some gas filled back up in there. Should i open the drain, start it, and then give it throttle to see if the amount of fuel coming out is less? The only thing i noticed is there was always a air pocket in the fuel line (I bought clear lines), i got rid of the air pocket twice but it always came back, is this normal or am i sucking air from the gas line somewhere. A friend of mine is going to test the compression for me tomorrow. I also noticed that it smokes quite a bit when giving it throttle, but almost no smoke when idling.

Just hang loose until you do a compression check first to eliminate it as a problem.

So we checked the compression and it was 75 PSI, put a camera inside the chamber and looks like the piston had a chunk out of it. So is it a big job to put in a new piston, rings, and head gasket.

I am also having a hard time finding a top end just for the predator, everything i find also says scrambler. Are they identical?

Predator,Scrambler Sportsman 50 ALL have the same engine. Only difference is the plastic. Not a big job on those top end kits. But if you want a manual that can help, here's one for 5 bucks.http://polaris-atv.brssm.com/2006-Po...ce-Manual.html

When i look at Polaris parts the cylinder is showing a different part number for the scrambler then the predator.

I also saw a site that said scrambler 2001-03 is the same as the Predator 2004-07

It's just because it was on a Scrambler,the Sportsman 50 may show a slightly different part number also.but parts are the same on ALL the 50cc two stroke engines. 2007 was the change over year to 4 strokes. Ebay listings may not always be correct when they lump models together. The kit you show is as good as most of them on ebay, amazon,etc.Niche makes good products. Cylinder head nut torque is 14 foot pounds.
