Default 2001 Scrambler 500 backfiring

ok. I have been having trouble with the stock carb for some time now. I reciently replaced the carb. At 1st it fired rightup , idled, and ran good. That was once I adjusted the idle screw. I put the quad away and fired it up a week later and it seemed fine. Now it won't idle. Fires right up and if I don't give it gas it dies. Once driving it drives fine and stays running. If your on the throttle hard, and let off the throttle I get a big back fire and a flame out the exhaust. Still has the stock muffler on it. Is this a carb issue? Carb adjustment issue? Choke issue. Motor issue? Fuel issue? Any advise is much appreciated. I am about to just sell as is. I have owned it for about 13yrs.

when you replaced the carb did you replace it with the same size and did you make sure the jets are the same as the stock one you took off? make sure all the setting are the same as on your stock carb. maybe pull the plug out and take a look to see if it's black/wet. the back fire with flame is the extra gas igniting I am guessing. just a few things to check.

same carb, well not an original carb but a brand new one. But it was fine at 1st. It ran good and idled. I don't think there were air fuel adjusting screws.

Brand new knock-offs usually aren't as good as rebuilt OEM carbs. They seem to cause as many problems as they cure.
