Default 2007 Sportsman 500 Charging issues

Hello. I am working on a sportsman 500 for a friend and he said the battery is dead always. So I tested the voltages. It is 11.8 with the quad off. When I start the engine it is only 11.9. I figured the stater is shot. I have tested the 3 yellow wires together and got .4 ohms but when I test the brown wire on the plug to the yellow wires I get .1 ohm. I am assuming the brown is a ground and it should not have any ohms? It should be a open circuit? Any help would be Appreciated

did you check all the connections to make sure that the rectifier is hooked up so it will control the voltage charge? just a thought.

sorry, they call it the - 4011517 Module, Control on the newer models. it should be located up under the front end bolted on the A Frame of the frame I think. it's number 11 on the Polaris parts break down

I'm leaning towards a bad stator also. Pull the drain plug under the pull start. The handle is a weak point for water to get in. Water+electricity, no good.
Take a look at youtube on how to test a stator, there are lots of videos on it.
Replacement isn't that bad of a job. You will need a flywheel puller.

Ok so I finally had time to do some tests please let me know if I did them wrong. So I tested y1 to y2 y3 and got a open circuit. Tested y2 y3 and got .4 ohms. I then tested all of them to the a ground. Used the transmission mounting bolt that was close? Not sure what they mean if they want the battery ground or just a ground on the quad. They were all a closed circuit to ground besides Y1 I am guessing a bad stator? The quad does get up to 12.0 volts when reving it ?

its either the stator or the module I told you about as there a bunch of issues with them in the year range I think. do a search on here and you might find more info as it's been too long for me to remember.

before you take it apart.make sure you dont have a broken wire right inside the plug for the stator ,i just fixed mine last weekend.y1 wire was broken off inside the plug on the connector. test for continuety from the plug end back 3 or 4 inches .you just might get lucky.
