Default Cam Compression Spring

1998 Polaris Sportsman 500

Was replacing broken bolt on the cam cover. Used a magnet to remove any debris when it grabbed the cam compression pin and spring. Now I can’t get it back in.

Rotate the motor/cam so the ball in the exhaust lobe is towards the bottom. Once the ball moves towards to outside of the hole, the shaft should slide right in.

Is the motor top cover going to have to be removed to rotate the cam?

Use the pull rope and rotate the motor. No covers need to be removed.
