95 425 magnum crazy electrical issues
Hey folks, I have an odd problem with my 425. The engine dies when I apply an electrical load. For instance, connecting the battery when the machine is running. Or, with the battery disconnected and engine running, if I apply power to the cooling fan the engine will die. Sometimes it will just start missing on a very regular rhythm at an idle, and then kills when I apply power. About the only way it runs is with no electrical load applied, and the battery disconnected. The battery is new, and shows 13.4 volts.
I'm at a loss here. I picked up the machine over the winter. It would run occasionally, then didn't. I did a compression test and only had 45 psi, with the decompression unit removed from the camshaft. So I decided to break it down and did. New rings, valves, camshaft...Also, at idle, the + cable to the battery is showing 10 volts, and jumps up to 13.5 worth a little throttle. (This is with the batter disconnected)
Now it runs, but I'm really perplexed by this electrical thing. Any ideas? Thanks.
