Atv hitch weight??
 

I have a 2018 sportsman 450HO. Everywhere I've looked I can't find the max tongue weight of the ATV. The goal is to put a dirt bike carrier with approx 200lb dirt bike on the back of atv. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

It should be on a little sticker somewhere. I think my 500 has it right on the receiver and says 150 pounds max. tongue weight. I'll check before it gets dark. Generally speaking it's somewhere around 10% of your towing capacity. I think your towing capacity is 1,500 so your tongue weight is probably 150. Check all your stickers and let us know if you find it.

And you were right. Sticker on my hitch states 120lb vertical weight. Theres my answer. I was hoping to throw the bike back there but dont think thats an option. Thanks for the help.

This is a good place to ask about your Polaris. Most people who don't have one wouldn't know. I just looked at my 500. The sticker is right on top of the receiver like I thought. I already knew my towing capacity was 1,225 pounds. My tongue weight is 120 pounds which is about 10% rounded off. I think your towing capacity is either 1,225 or 1,500 which would make the tongue weight 120 or 150 pounds. If it's 120 pounds I wouldn't put close to double that weight on it. You'd be better off carrying it on your rack instead if it will fit. It won't change your center of gravity as bad as having the weight that far behind the rear axle.

ETA: I was still typing when you posted but yeah, 10% of your towing capacity. The 55 pound scooter I had wouldn't be a problem but it sucked on loose sand.

Im thinking a small trailer might just be the way to go. Was just hoping for something to take up less space in the garage.

If you get a 4' wide trailer it will fit between any trees your quad will. I saw some that were 4'x5' or somewhere around that size. They're not too heavy and you could stand one on end to take up less room. When my friends and I get firewood we pull 2 trailers right down the trail to get some downed trees and branches. We'll take almost any hardwood if it's not rotten. We rarely even touch a birch unless it's to move it out of the way. We like oak and maple and get a lot of poplar with our oak too. It all burns, and with one guy cutting and 2 or 3 loading the trailers it doesn't take long to fill them both. One trailer is a highly modified lawn cart like you might pull around with a lawn tractor. It has fat tires and a wider stance so it's harder to tip over, and a long tongue welded on. The other trailer is wider and a lot longer. It used to be some kind of fold up camping trailer but I never saw one, just what's left of it. It will fit down a lot of the trails too but not all of them like the little trailer. Sometimes we put 2 benches in the back of the big one and give the drunks a ride to the lake so they don't have to drive. It's great for hauling kids around too.
