03 trailblazer noise from rear

Hi everyone- my 2003 trailblazer is making a weird sound from the rear right side. Like whoop whoop whoop. I just changed the rear bearings. The axel housing needs to be replaced. Where can I find one? Finding one has been a problem. Thank you!

Welcome to the forums.

First thing that sticks out to me is how loose that chain is.

Katherine22 06-01-2019 07:58 AM

I’m new to 4 wheeling so maybe the chain is too loose? I dont know

scootergptx 06-01-2019 12:47 PM

Yes, it's way too loose.

Hit it all with a hose and maybe we can see some other things.

We were all new to this at one time, so don't be afraid to ask.

Trying to find a Trailblazer service manual download. That will be a big help on working on it.

Anyone out there?

Here's a pretty good tutorial on getting the chain tight. As loose as yours is, good chance of it coming off. As dirty as it was, you will want to clean it up, inspect it to make sure it has all the orings, and oil it up. Be sure to use a chain oil made for the orings. If you just use a lubricant like wd40, that is really bad for them.

Once you done that, see if the noise has gone away, changed or stayed the same.

Can't find a free service manual, but you can get a pdf download online. Depending on where you get it from it could be anywhere from 10-25 dollars. It's money well spent.

Awesome!!! I’ll get on that!! Ps...I know I need an axel housing because the diameters aren’t the same. The left bearing went in good. The right side was a pain because the diameter was too big and the bearing didn’t wanna sit quite right. I should probably do all this at the same time. Thank you!!!

Should the chain be riding up the teeth where those wear marks are? I didn't have my Trailblazer long enough to know a lot about chain drives.
