06 Polaris Scrambler 50 Rear shoe's replacement

I have new brake shoes for the rear of this 06 scrambler 50. How do the two nuts on the axle come off that are in front of the brake drum. Are they left handed threads? I have put a pipe wrench on with no luck.
Please advise.
